I'd like to know what happens after
On Restaurant Impossible you can go to the website to see how the places they help are doing. I sure would like to do that with this show. I am hoping somethibg awful happened to the idiot flower guy.

shareI'd love to have seen his reaction when he watches himself on camera praising the 150k he said was spent, followed by him saying "that never came out of my mouth"
The guy is either a deliberate liar or has a horrible memory
I wish someone would invest in my ideas for business, I'd be a lot more appreciative
The florist has a FB page where there's lots of folks letting him have it. Lemonis came in to say that he has been repaid his money and to leave the guy alone. Still, what a jerk, right?
shareI thought, with the emotional scene in the car, the guy would go up to his mum and drop the job he seem to despise so much. This would have shown growth.
But then he was absent at the big opening, which made clear that he is a helpless, emotional kid that was left with a toy by his dad (the store) to play with - and and all forgiving check writer, his mum, who probably go bankrupt with him. He surely couldn't hold a candle to his fathers achievements.
His whole argumentation was a truck full of horse manure. He didn't like that someone was more successful playing with his "toy". Thats all. With Marcus on his side, he might would be able to open more shops and make more cash. But he threw that all away. Lets see if the store still exists in 2 years.
Going back to his childish, disinterested ways, sooner or later the shop will fail.
Very good comments.
I think at the core of it, is that he simply didn't want to work at the business. No phone number on the van, that speaks volumes about them. If he was there burning it up at that company but still wasn't making money, I can understand he needs guidance. But the guy's heart wasn't in it, and instead of just admitting that he was blaming the angel investor which was pure bunk. What is especially stupid is not realizing you don't know what the hell you are doing and not accepting help from an expert for it. Yeah, he didn't want to work at the business but he could have hired someone else to run it with the improved direction. But many bad business people are control freaks and want to be in charge even if it drives them right out of business.

It's almost as if the producers scour the country for ungrateful a-holes with larger than life personalities who own struggling businesses. I can't believe how many of them are on this show. If I had one of these businesses and Lemonis came in to help me I would be salaaming all over the place and doing everything he told me to.
share[deleted]
That's possible.
shareOn one show, Lemonis called the owner an effing lunatic. On another, the flower show, he called the owner a liar and a cheat. To be called that on national TV... that's bad for business, so I don't think that stuff was scripted.
But there's probably a lot of editing going on. I imagine there's way more video footage taken than what makes it onto the show, which lets the producers be selective in what they show.

the writers write the boring crap he says to the audience in his solo cutaway shots.
shareNo business owner would make an ass of themselves on national television unless they get paid relatively well for it.
If it's their business we are seeing then it should probably already be going bankrupt for them to consider tarnishing their brand for money.
So I think we need to find out if a) it's their business and b) they get a significant pay.
Then we can deduce if they are either an actor on an elaborate stage or a failing business owner selling out.
Because we see a new business every episode with different outcomes each time, it will have to be an elaborate approach to cover up if it's fake.
In the case of a failing business it's obvious; the owner is going bankrupt and sells out his brand.
In the case a successful business it is more complex; the owners have a good brand and they agree to put on a theater show with or without actors and film a story how it grew to the point they are now. This would mean any viewer that already knows the history of the business could call them out as a liar/fake.
I think we can exclude the businesses being fake brands on an existing facility?

Your point that financial records are reviewed thoroughly beforehand undermines the genuineness of the financial revelations Marcus makes in some episodes.
The only explanation I can think of is that the deals are nullified if the conditions the deals are based on turn out to be false, which gives Marcus the ability to back out before spending the full sum. It is risky and the amount of money he lost in the last episode was 100k; is that amount worth gambling over for the sake of reality tv credibility? As he could review the finances in secret with none the wiser.
If we suppose that these are real, failing businesses, How much money would they ask to potentially damage their real life and how much money could they receive from the network?
Every episode has different owners unlike shows like gold rush. I have read that the lead person on the show gets 400k per season, thats 25k per episode and gold rush is a much more popular show. Lets say its 50k per episode.
Would a business making 100k+ a year in salary for the owners take 20k and put on a theater show?
Perhaps they receive much more money, I do not know.

no human talks like that at a business meeting

i wish they did a show about people who really cleaned a company's offices. aka the night janitorial staff. i think that would be very interesting. and a hit!

The writers listed in the closing credits are there for a reason. If it was all real, you wouldn't need writers, right?
or most american act like that?
shareThis isn't just a show reporting on the businesses, it is a show about Marcus putting real money into them. So trying to find a business just for drama doesn't make sense. You don't have to look very hard to find problems in most businesses. There is a reason they are being held back by and it's because of their own incompetence and quirks. Simple things like too much money in inventory that isn't moving is very common. But for whatever reason the owner doesn't realize this and is focused on other things which aren't bringing them good results.
Some people also have a fatalist approach to business where they refuse to spend any money to invest in capital improvements. They are expecting to go out of business even from the start so they keep thinking about not wanting to get stuck with things they spend money on that they can't sell.
Look at any strip mall and think about the last 5-10 years and how much turnover of businesses there were. Or if the stores are now empty. And this is just one strip mall. There are thousands of them all over the place. But you don't get a chance to see inside the business to find out what is going on and why the went out of business. There are many people who go into business that are not prepared to handle it. With a business as long as you have the money even if its through loans to get it going, there is no gate keeper to filter you out to see if you have experience to run a business. You are free to open the business and lose the money and go out of business. And many of these places, once they get it going, they borrow more money from friends and family members, and get more loans. So years can go by without them turning a profit, but to the outside world it looks like the business is surviving because its still there.
Many start a business not because they have a vision, but because they simply want to be in charge. They think if they are in charge they can do whatever they want. So someone else comes in telling them they are now in charge and they freak out. I've seen this when new owners have bought a controlling interest in a company, they greatly object to the changes even if is leaning to putting more money in everyone's pocket.
Most intelligent people would jump at the chance to have Marcus be involved in their business. But those types of people are usually already successful and aren't looking for a partner. So by the very nature that they contact Marcus means they need a "fix it" guy with money and contacts.

Steve don't bother.
You'll never impress the self proclaimed world's greatest businessman who never discusses business. Who doesn't talk about his business success but wants to hear everyone else's story so he can tell them and himself how inferior they are to him.
