Book fans... No matter what happens tonight...

Lets just be grateful that the day has Finally come and that it no matter what will be better than the first movie.

I understand that the network, the runtime, (to some people) the cast, and many other factors are red flags. I think it is safe to say the movie will not be perfect, but I think it will still be enjoyable.

Would I personally have LOVED a full length, R rated feature film with Reese Witherspoon or Nicole Kidman as Corrine, and Elle Fanning as Cathy? Of course I would have. But realistically, a big budget film with perfect looking cast wasn't going to happen. The book was and still is very peopler, but too much time has passed since the height of its popularity for it to have that kind of power to fetch a studios attention.

Many of us have been waiting for this day for years, maybe even decades, prior to the announcement that it was going to be made. Lets try to be grateful were getting something, even if it isn't exactly what we had in mind.

I'm pretty excited for this, I've been waiting a long time! I liked the first movie but only because I saw it before reading the books and I'm a fan of Louise Fletcher. Now that I've read the series, I'm thrilled to hear they'll stay very true to the book. Of course, some things will be taken out, but I think it's a going to good!!

I was sort of hoping that Kristy Swanson would do a cameo in this movie, but when I asked her about it she said she didn't even know about it, however she is thrilled to see it!

When YOU asked her?

LOVE to hear THAT story.

But of course we won't!

I saw this on DVD and Wal-Mart and that was the first I'd heard of the 1987 movie being remade. I was a little stunned. I didn't realize it was a Lifetime TV movie on top of that until I started it.

I have never read the books, so beforehand all I did was go look at the imdB ratings. I didn't think the first movie would be rated so low.. 5.5. Then this one slightly higher.. my first thought was no way this remake is going to be better. Most remakes are not..

And I was right. This movie was horrible. Ruined the original movie.

I understand this one is closer to the book though. I enjoyed the original movie's story better than this one and think it was overall just done better. The grandmother in this one didn't even seem that bad.

All in all I'm happy. Acting was definitely not Emmy worthy, nore was the writing, and the clostrophobia bit on the stairs at the end made me roll my eyes, but non the less it was much better than I expected it to be. I would still love to hone day have a mini series on a network that can get away with more like HBO, FX, Showtime, etc; or a series of feature films with more experienced child actors, but for now, I am satisfied. HUGE improvement from the original.

I'm grateful that I enjoyed it more than I was expecting too based on the reviews.

I loved the new movie; i thought it was very respectful towards the source material. I also was pleased with the performances from everyone, and the movie had a beautiful, gothic look and feel to it. I'm very happy that this was made, and that it was this good. It was fun seeing a book that I loved for years, come alive on screen. in fact, when I heard about the movie, i was surprised because I thought that those books were pretty much forgotten by now. I'm so glad to see that they still have a large fanbase! and that 1987 movie is just an insult to the novel, and it's fans. so i'm surprised also to hear people actually complaining about THIS film. i mean, what do they want??

I think some of the fans almost don't want to be happy if they cannot get every single detail and refuse to even look at logistical issues. Like people pointing out the kids didn't look enough malnourished for example...they are child actors, they can't just lose 20-30 lbs for a role. The expectations are set far too high...it's like they absolutely do not want to be happy.

This movie was a million times better than the 80s movie despite its flaws.

I can't believe some people (even book fans) defend the old movie when it was awful and nothing like that. It seems some people will hate any remake.

Truthfully, I liked this version a lot and I chose to understand that when you doa two hour movie, you do have to cut things out or merge them into little things to make the movie flow. That said, I honestly wish this could have been a mini-series or at least a 2 night event where it could have been fully fleshed out and given it's complete scope. Heck, I would have been thrilled had they chose to do a full out mini and did the three books that really incorporate the span (I would chose to leave out the prequel and the last one.. not because i don't like them but I think it moves from Cathy and Chris to Cathy's children and then Olivia's story which don't really have to be told with the other 3 books). I would love to see the other two books but i don't think it's necessary to tell them in context to the other three.

This thread made me soooooooooooooooooooooo happy to see it. all the other threads on this site are about people praising the original which in my opinion strayed WAY WAY WAY WAY too far from the book. i felt this version was MUCH more faitful and am REALLY looking forwards to Petals!!!

I've never read the book, but I saw the previews for this and decided to watch. I wasn't disappointed at all. I would love to see this story in the form of a miniseries because I was fascinated by it and would love to see more details from the book. I've never seen the original film and I don't plan to due to what I've read about it here.

Yes, I was also pleased with this adaptation since it improved on the 1987 version. It's by no means perfect. I wish it had better pacing and not so rushed.

But perhaps if this remake is proven succesful...maybe in another few years...another adaptation can be made. Like those classic novels. It's never just one adaptation.

The important thing is that producers know there is an interest and audience for FITA.

Well said. You were correct about everything here. First viewing I loved it. I had it on loop and watched it four times. Then I started reading reviews and seeing fans pick over it's bones. I am still very grateful this was even made. Was it everything I expected or wanted? No. Was it worth waiting for? Absolutely.
