There's more flowers growing in the attic.

Publisher Pocket Books announced two new follow-ups to V.C. Andrews' Dollanganger series. Christopher's Diary: Secrets of Foxworth and Christopher's Diary: Echoes of Dollanganger will be released in October 2014 and January 2015, respectively.

The first books in the series, Flowers in the Attic, and its sequel, Petals on the Wind, tell the story of the four Dollanganger children — Christopher, Cathy, Cory and Carrie — who are locked in an attic for years by their cruel mother and grandmother, but who then escape and forge a new life for themselves.

Christopher's Diary picks up the story in the present when 17-year-old Kristin Masterwood — a distant relative of the Dollangangers— discovers the diary in the ruins of Foxworth Hall, the Virginia house in which the Dollanganger kids were imprisoned, and his story becomes a dangerous obsession for Kristin.

The original novels have been extremely popular since Flowers' publication in 1979 and Petals' publication the next year, with both topping best-seller lists. Led by Flowers, Andrews' worldwide sales have topped 106 million books.

Andrews died in 1986 at age 63, but her estate has continued to publish novels under her name by using a ghostwriter to build on partially completed manuscripts, plot outlines and notes she left behind.

Flowers was made into a Lifetime TV movie with Kiernan Shipka, Heather Graham and Ellen Burstyn that aired in January, drawing 6.1 million viewers, making it the highest-rated basic cable movie since November 2012.

Its sequel, Petals on the Wind, is set to air on May 26.

I had already heard about a spinoff (Christopher's Diary) that would be a re-imaging of FitA (from Christopher's POV), but two! No. Just no.

How...and more importantly, why!? Why would we need a another perspective on the story? Personally, I do not trust Neiderman to be faithful and true to the original story, and wouldn't be surprised if he tries to shed a different light on the whole experience / or tries to introduce alternative plots / story-lines!

Hell, the inconsistencies / continuity between FitA and Garden of Shadows are often attributed to Neiderman!

In my opinion, this whole idea of a spinoff is a travesty to the original FitA.

It really is time for you to stop now, Mr. Neiderman.

Please. Just stop.

I don't have much to add here except that I agree with you, Elphie. Completely. I haven't bought a "V.C. Andrews" book since the Melody series because all Neiderman seems to do is recycle the same story.

Now if VCA herself was still alive, I'd LOVE a Christopher point of view.
