From the trailer, it kinda reminds me of Crank, which I didn't really like
It is nothing like those films, it's a completely different genre: action sci-fi, non stop action throughout. That being said, it's still pretty good. Is it ultraviolent? Yes. Does it contain any philosophical or psychoanalytic concepts? Yes.
I mostly enjoyed it because of its social implications and the ethical/unethical ramifications of human experimenting and Artificial Intelligence, a big theme these days.
The protagonist is a messiah/savior figure, essentially 'resurrecting' and redeeming himself before the end course of the film. It is completely shot in POV, like a video game, so be conscious of that if you decide to watch it. I didn't mind the POV, as it is totally a revenge fantasy film.
Great list of films, by the way, big fan of Kubrick, especially Eyes Wide Shut. Polanski is also a consummate filmmaker. I also enjoy Michael Haneke, Paul T. Anderson, Alejandro Jodorowsky, Terrence Malick and so many others. Cheers.
