no sheep

What, no sheep anywhere in this one? Really not sure we count it as a Jane Austen film then, sorry.

;)

Pretty much liked it, but it is quite talky. People have a conversation and then one of them goes off to meet someone else and recounts the conversation. Not sure I caught all of it amid all the English accents. Look forward to seeing it again one day with subtitles. But some tremendously funny characters and bits. One guy should be sued by Ricky Gervais for shamelessly ripping off his act, unless that's a very common thing in England.

Good point. I KNEW something was missing! Baaah! ;-)

In her diary of the making of S&S, Emma Thompson records Ang Lee saying through gritted teeth after a particularly trying day getting a flock of authentic rare-breed sheep to maintain continuity in an outdoor shot, "No more sheeps. Never again sheeps."

:) Real or your invention?

reply

It's absolutely real. Thompson published the screenplay and her diary in one volume as a tie-in with the movie. Presumably as an alternative to a 'novelisation' of the screenplay, which she also tells us in the diary was actually proposed by the studio suits! 'I've said if this happens I will hang myself. Revolting notion. Beyond revolting.'

It's a very funny read, I recommend it.

Just requested it from the library, so thanks very much! She's extremely witty and talented.

Great book by the way, so thank you! The quote you mention is on p. 118 for anyone else reading.
