Manwaring SPOILERS

Throughout the movie I kept looking for Mr. Manwaring. That was obviously a trick of the filmmaker, that this character with whom Susan was obviously in love never shows up. He appears for a couple of seconds at the very end. Or did I miss something? (Does he appear in the "introductions" at the beginning of the movie?)

I thought it was a pretty hilarious turn that this character who means so much to Susan--and ultimately to the plot--is always offstage. And that Susan ends up with what she wants. What a bitch! But I'm glad that her daughter got the good guy. Was that actually Susan's ploy from the beginning?

I'm English, and if there's anything more deplorable than our cooking, it's our lovemaking

He was in the film in several scenes. There wasn't as much attention paid to Lord Manwaring as Susan Vernon was mostly Scheming to get Reginald DeCourcy to Marry her throughout the film. She gave up on Reginald DeCourcy when she realized he was unlikely to inherit for some time, and switched to James Martin because he already had lots of money. Besides being the true father of her child, if she could get Lord Manwaring away from his wife he was also a potential husband should Reginald Decourcy not pan out. Beyond the ending scenes, he sporadically appeared every now and then. I can see how you could miss him if you were not paying close attention to the people in the background. I don't think he had more than a few lines of dialogue in the whole film, so he didn't stand out much.

Manwaring didn't have his own money. His wife was wealthy. He was never husband material but he makes a convenient lover on the side.

Did he have any lines? In the DVD I watched, he never spoke. Don't tell me I watched a version butchered from the theatrical release. :-(

When Lady Susan and her husband arrive at her daughter's wedding, Mainwaring gets out of the carriage with them. He has clearly become the amiable permanent houseguest, a fine hunting partner for Martin and an even better other kind of partner for the new Mrs. Martin.

Earlier we see him arrive in London for his rendezvous with Susan.

Prepare your minds for a new scale of physical, scientific values, gentlemen.

He was introduced in the beginning of the movie.

I had to rewatch the beginning several times to understand the whole connecting.

Anyway, i understand why he isnt much visible as that wasn't the story line plus it adds on with the whole movie in general. All the intrigues and schemes are hidden for one and another and for the men mostly not visible. So i understand that they brought it this way.
