Good scary flick overall but some complaints

As with other James Wan horror movies, I think The Conjuring 2 is very good. But I notice they tend to start out strong with almost PERFECTLY timed scares only to have the plot fall apart towards the end. No different here.

My four complaints are:

1. The climax felt contrived and cheap. Having Lorraine explain to the audience how knowing a demon's name gives her power and then using it to banish the demon in one fell swoop just seemed like they needed to end the movie in a hurry.

2. This is not only a complaint for this movie but horror movies in general. There's only so many times the audience will buy that a character will hear something strange in a known haunted house and wander around alone in the middle of the night without screaming "Holy sh*t, the f!@#$ing toys are alive! EVERYONE WAKE THE F!@#$ UP AND HELP ME!"

3. Speaking of toys, I liked the look of the Crooked Man, but he felt out of place in what was an otherwise 'realistic' style horror movie. He felt more like he belonged in a Tim Burton film.

4. As a skeptical atheist, I took offense to the way the "skeptic" character was portrayed. She was shown as being heartless and dismissive - unwilling to do research before making her claims and obviously not all skeptics are like this. Although, one could argue that this is simply payback for the myriad films in which Catholics and other believers are portrayed negatively.

But other than that, I still say James Wan is the best horror director we have working today. The setup and initial scares were almost flawless. Can't wait or his next one and hopefully he'll address these few points!

#3 was my issue as well. The first movie was so low budget and realistic that it was jarring to watch a movie awkwardly try fit in CGI that didn't fit with the realistic style.

Crooked Man was not CGI, he's an actor named Javier Botet who is famous for having the bizarre body type and talent for moving in shaky or stop-motion type movements without any editing trickery. Look him up, he's kinda creepy in an interesting way.

I agree with your list, but would add to it a few more nitpicks..

5. Why would a ghost drop "actual" dentures when he bites the mom?

6. The NUN demon running across the room with the painting was another silly scene that didn't need to happen. The slow build was creepy enough when the lights went out and the figure on the painting started to become real.

7. The random jump scares with the old mans voice shouting "my house" got old and less scary each time it happened.

Otherwise I liked the movie.
