Very underwhelming
I thought The Conjuring was a modern horror classic. I had been hanging on to The Conjuring 2 for about a month now waiting for the right time to watch it. I was prepared to endure the same amount of tension and well executed scares that the first one provided. Nobody wanted to watch this one with me so I ended up popping it it on the big screen and boy was I disappointed. I'll admit that the nun was creepy but I still was completely underwhelmed by the rest of the film. It didn't flow as well as the first one, nor did it have remotely the same amount of build up and tension that made the first one such a classic. I'm not trying to act like a badass here but I can say without a doubt that I didn't jump once. I didn't shield my eyes once. As the ending approached I realized that this sequel was not nearly what I had hoped it would be. It's a shame too because I really was rooting for this one. I think part of the issue is that I'm just getting too familiar with James Wan's tricks. His Masterpiece was the first Conjuring and I hope eventually he'll be able to make another horror film on that same level but this was not the one. I'll continue to support his films and I'll keep rooting for him because clearly he knows how to do horror right when he's completely invested in what he's doing.
I won't be losing any sleep tonight like I did when I saw the first one.
