The Nun? Don't get the Amityville Tie-in????

Wow, the Conjuring 2 sure is well crafted and directed. James Wan is so skillful directing, and the camerawork is superb - I was scared and jump-scared.

What I didn't at all understand was the Amityville tie in with the nun-demon. Why not make this a standalone story in either Amityville or the UK, why make these 2 incidents related?

It's because they reference Amityville at the end of the first movie and he wanted it to seem continuous but also didn't want to do the amityville haunting for the fiftieth time.

the warrens investigated Amytiville post factum and never claimed to have cleaned it. You can't make a Conjuring movie about Amytiville.

The nun wasn't part of the haunting at Amityville, Lorraine was having a premonition of the demon in Enfield and of Ed's death. The point was that after going into a trance to tap into the energy of the house, her mind would be open enough to see glimpses as a warning. It was just added in to build another layer of story.
