It say that knowing the demons name gives power over it. It makes sense that demanding a demon goes back to hell would work.

Ha, yeah I thought that was pretty weak too.

Like the whole time the demon is haunting and terrifying this woman and it must be thinking "Ergh, god, please don't do any research on me, let me have my fun :/"

Not to mention, if I were a demon and knew that if you called me by name you would have the power to send me to hell every time I got on your nerves, maybe I just wouldn't answer when you said "who are you?"

Just a shame we just got to see "Valak" for a couple of seconds. Seems that's where all the CGI budget went.
