The Playfair?

My wife who is an expert on this story (she says she isn't but I know the truth) got me interested in it and we both thought how strange it was that Guy Lyon Playfair made no appearance in this film! The guy appeared in the Endfield Haunting and has been on many documentaries about the haunting yet makes no contribution to this film! Anyone know what gives?

Your wife is an expert on this? So I presume that means she is aware that the story was entirely fabricated and that this movie was an exaggerated embellishment of said fabrication?

reply

I believe they just combined his character with Maurice Grosse. The movie is already over two hours long. imagine having to introduce another paranormal researcher.

Thing is the Warrens came over for the event but only wanted to make money from it and Playfair sent them home packing! That's why he wasn't even given a mention in the film due to the wife's influence!

Because this film is most definitely just "based on the true story" I remember watching the documentary back in the 70's when it was happening and the newspaper stories. The Warrens weren't involved in the Enfield haunting.
They apparently came to the house for about an hour before catching their flight back to the US. I think if I remember right it was after they'd been interviewed on the
daytime programme Pebble Mill about The Amityville Haunting.
Watch The Enfield Haunting starting Timothy Spall if you want to see something resembling what actually happened.
Just one more really annoying thing....
ok so they couldn't pay the rent or even afford a packet of biscuits coz they're so skint? But they've got a remote control TV and a phone!
I was one of five children in the 70's and we could afford the odd Jammie dodger but we never had a remote control bloody telly or a phone till at least 1980!!
I just had to shout really loud out the window to see if my pal 3 rows away was coming out to play.
