Written by a woman

and doesn't it show.

Totally unrealistic and not one laugh in the whole film.

I watched it out of respect for Simon Pegg, wish I hadn't. Totally unbelievable, predictable, corny, lacklustre and implausible. The music was such sentimental nonsense - telling you which parts to feel happy and which parts to feel sad.

Yuckity yuckity yuck yuck - 4 out of 10.

I know rom-coms have been described as porn for woman, but even porn has more believable plots than this drivel. I watched it for Simon Peg too, and I should have gone with my initial instincts. I find writers and directors have far more influence over whether I'll like a show or movie, but I let sentimentality get the better of me, and I watched this just for an actor. I despise rom-coms where the characters and plot are less believable than horror movies. There are a few good rom-coms, but I have no idea who movies like this appeal to. I get full fantasy romance movies like The Princess Bride, What Dreams may Come, Willow, and Groundhog Day, they're entertaining and romantic. Movies like this try to imitate reality, but they're more fantastical than full on fantasy romances.

I'm a guy. I don't tend to like romantic comedies in the least... but I thought this movie was quite good.

Had no idea that this was written by a woman and actually feels it does a much better job of falling into most of the "traps" that rom-coms want to fall into. Is there a fair amount of emotion and sentimentality at times? Well... OBVIOUSLY. It IS still a romantic comedy.

I definitely think their were laughs. If you wanted to hate the film and weren't in the mood to laugh at them then that doesn't mean they weren't there... they just wouldn't have been there for you.

And, the soundtrack was VERY GOOD. There's a long bit where they do an instrumental version of The Pixie's "Where is My Mind?" which made me fall even more in love with The Pixies even.

That's MY personal opinion on all that. I actually feel like I liked it way more than I should and while I can't justify giving it more than a 8/10, for pure enjoyment value I may have enjoyed it about as much as the movie "Love Actually" which I believe is a firm 9/10.

Horrendous attempt at trolling.

reply

"Trolling" A word used by people of below average intelligence because they can't produce a cohesive counter-argument!

reply

"Trolling" - something done by idiots when they have such deeply seated insecurities that they must take it out on other people to get a fleeting sense of satisfaction.

reply

So by your idiotic definition, any film critic must like every film they watch or they are insecure - you really are a massive tit!

reply

Reviewing movies is their job, and they're able to be objective. You posted a topic in a forum saying "written by a woman and it sucks!". That's the difference between a critic and a troll. And I do know the phrase "do not feed the trolls", so I won't be replying to your rubbish anymore.

reply

I actually said written by a woman and it shows.

Because to any sane person, there are clear differences between men and women and how they view romance.

For you not to know that, as well as not knowing what trolling is, just confirms what I already wrote - you are a massive tit!

Says the one who never listed any of his coherent arguments. Apart from vague adjectives, now would be the time to list those implausibilities in bulletpoints, or you are just talking out of your *beep*

"Anyone who claims to be a feminist instead of a humanist is a tap dancing monkey."

reply

It's a *beep* film, go home.

I thought it was fine for what it was. A small budget rom-com with a nice premise. Some funny moments but mostly just a diverting romantic story. Could have been better but perfectly acceptable as a watchable little film that won't stay long in the memory.
