I don't usually like romantic comedy. However when I saw this movie in the cinema I really enjoyed every minute of it. I know it has received mixed reviews but i liked the storyline. Simon Pegg was surpsingly good at playing a romantic lead and was funny all the way through. It was also my first time seeing Lake Bell act, i'd love to see more of her movies after this one. When this comes out on DVD I'll have to buy it as I feel its a fun little feel good movie.
Loved it I only really rate Harry met Sally, Four Weddings and some of Woody Allen's stuff romcon wise but this was a delight. Pegg is on top form and Bell is a true star in the making here with a pretty damn perfect Brit accent. Not to mention Rory Kinnear hilarious as hapless Sean. An unexpected little gem this one!
I like the genre a lot, but this just felt flat, unoriginal (except the opening premise) and contrived. What was the point of showing her sister try to call? It wasn't funny or enlightening. The coincidences in the bowling alley and Mexican bar seemed forced and were just to move the plot along. Some of the characters' actions would've been funny if they'd acted drunk, rather than just being seen downing shots and beers - they never looked drunk but acted like idiots. Them dancing and having a seemingly in depth and emotional conversation had me wincing in pain, plus who actually dances like that in London?

I pretty much stopped listening after you stated you like the genre a lot. Look, I like a lot of "sword and sorcery films" even though I know they're kinda terrible and should be a guilty pleasure. I don't care if you like the genre, really... but to pretend like the genre isn't pretty terrible and unbelievably formulaic? That's just silly.
Rom-coms are completely unoriginal and contrived virtually by definition. This particular movie was FAR from unoriginal so far as the genre is concerned.
I just think your criticisms are completely ludicrous if you're going to compare this movie to other Rom-Coms.
And for the record, teenagers act drunk even when they're not... and they won't stop telling you how drunk they are either. Adults tend to do stupid things, but don't try and act drunk and instead try and act like they're not. I actually tend to cringe whenever a movie lazily writes about a drunk character and expects us to laugh at how stupid they're behaving.

I thoroughly enjoyed this movie and never having seen Lake Bell in a movie before found her performance simply enchanting. Simon Pegg was his usual wonderful self. Definitely recommended!
I really really loved this movie. First off it is funny as hell. I was laughing out loud several times. Then you have Lake Bell & Simon Pegg who have great chemistry together as well as comedic timing. I knew Simon was a funny guy but I was impressed with Lake Bell's comedic abilities.
I also felt so much sympathy for Nancy because she kinda reminded me of myself and yes I also had a bit of an overbearing sister (who meant well).
I know this is a romcom but everything about it, from the original concept of the 'What happens if you meet the wrong person on a blind date' to the great acting. It was a great film and eventhough it had the 'cliche end' I was balling my eyes out.
None of the romcoms I've watched in the past brought me to tears. This film did. I knew I was going to like this film from the first time I saw the trailer and it did not dissapoint.I also am, currently ordering the film, eventhough it has not released yet.
Such a great movie; while it was a bit unrealistic at times it was overall lovely to watch.
Dear Warden. You were right. Salvation lies within.
Not for everyone...but for those for whom this film will resonate...just fantastic. Love Lake Bell and Simon Pegg, and, just the icing on the cake, absolutely great chemistry together. If you're a romantic, you won't be wasting your time with this film.
Starts off a little slow, but, hey....so does life.
