I've always thought that Tom Hanks was miscast as professor Langdon. I think George Clooney would've been a much better choice. Closer to the character description in the books.

reply

I totally agree. Langdon is a bit like Inidana Jones who doesn't do jumpy action stuff. Still should be a more conventional sleazy type, though.

In one of the books, he mentioned how he had been on the swim team in college which would imply some level of fitness and athleticism.

reply

yeah, sure, THAT´S the unrealistic thing about these movies.
Protecting Jesus offspring through solving thousand year old riddles that are all still perfectly visible in the world and fighting several super secret societys and their killers? All good. A 30 year old women feeling atrackted to Tom Hanks, get the f out!

reply

Obviously the o.p. knows no women or is an immature one. Just as men love older women, some women love older men.

reply

hahahahahaah this comment made me actually lol!

In the Angels and Demons movie there is no romantic subplot at all. He gets to bang the girl in the book only...

reply

Have you actually seen the movies. There is no romantic subplot in either of the two movies so the age and attractiveness of the women have little bearing on anything. Even in the books, A&D is the only one which has a clear romantic subplot.

It's the hint/anticipation of copulation that fuels these 50-60 y.o. men + 25-35 y.o. women pairings.

And as a 56 y.o. man, I find it difficult to complain about that.

But as a film-goer, that isn't enough to make me want to see another "Oh, the Bible says __________, therefore we better go do __________" Dan Brown story.

Agreed, and the "riddles" in the former books would be more expected in an Enid Blyton book which made me wonder why The Da Vinci Code ever got so popular.
Inferno is interesting at another level, and god or his supposed offspring is not really part of the plot, but rather global human morale and how to handle the different opinions on the planets overpopulation.
David Attenborough's membership in Population Matters and propagating their messages or Hans Roslings statistical predictions that a populous of 10 bn will stabilize and the planet will be able to cope gives different views on the same subjectmatter, but not all agree, and the books -albeit shallow - insights into the very real Humanity+ movement made this book a much more interesting and emotionally challenging read for me.

reply

That stupid for many reasons but the main one is that the young and attractive leading character and Tom Hanks' character have no romantic relationship at all.
