Anything to reduce the population. Kind of hard for me to root for the good guys when they're trying to stop something that's highly needed from happening. Only weird thing is, how do they think a highly lethal virus will only knock out half the population or so? Is it designed to target population with below average vitality?

Movie really made a mess of the plot. In the book the virus causes a genetic mutation in everyone, rendering 50% of humanity sterile. It gets passed along, so 50% of new burns will be sterile.

In the book it´s even a third of the population, so way more humane then killing 50% straight.
