Bad Aspect Ratio

When you are shooting in such beautiful places like Florence,Venice! and Istanbul. You would want to shoot the scenes in cinema scope 16:9 Ratio, fill in the screen with the beauty of the background. But Somehow some idiot decided to shoot the movie in more of a square format. It infuriated me as a movie and art lover to not see the beauty of filmmaking. A very bad decision. What do you guys think ?

FYI, 16:9 (1.77:1) is not cinema scope. It is 2.35:1, which was used for the first two Langdon films. As for Inferno they shot it in 1.85:1 ratio. I guess they went this route because of the smaller scale of the film. The budget was half of Angels & Demons. Also the plot doesn't involve too many riddles and locations like earlier films. It shifts from Florence to Istanbul.

Make a move, Reindeer Games..

1.85:1 or 1.78:1 is what I prefer for action and thrillers. I feel that this aspect ratio is quite apt for the film.

Thanks for that Information.
They are very similar, just a little difference so I sort of wrote them together.
Still it's frustrating to look at. Venice is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. I would have loved some wide angle shots and also the climax place would have been better with wide angle shots.

I'm guessing they chose 1.85 to enjoy the mostly vertical locations. Good decision in my opinion. I didn't like how close they were to everything. Want to see more than head and shoulders. Also hated the wobbly hand held Bourn look. Got too tiresome.
A good page turner though.

Agreed. And some scenes the framing was really awkward, like cutting off a face partly.

Yes, I wouldn't have gone if I had known. Assumption is the mother of all F-Ups. It made it look cheaper than its predecessors which turned out to be the case.
