How could have Zobrist control how many people the virus would effect?

The only reason anyone survived the black death is because there were certain people who had a gene mutation that made them immune to the infection.

How could Zobrist know that his virus would kill off half of the population, and there is the race question, sanitation/management issues. Current epidemics affect certain areas/countries more than others due to genetics and government control.

I would say he engineered the virus to connect to a gene that is prevalent in a third of the population.

He couldn't. It might have killed the who world for all he knew but there's the argument that some people will recover some will be immune and finally a cure will be developed. I think the meteor heading our way we don't yet know about will probably be enough. And, if WW3 does break out you'd rather be dead anyway. Nukes have a tendency to make things difficult for a long time.
