While I'm a fan of Sardonyx (and all the other fusions), can we really consider her significant enough to be called "a new character?"

Yes, Garnet too is a fusion but she heavily impacts the story. At best, her parts (Ruby and Sapphire) earn the title of "reoccuring character" as we've seen them more than once, could easily see them again, and have had character development. But, Opal, Sugilite, Rainbow Quartz and Sardonyx only appear for VERY brief periods and only serve the purpose of being plot devices. Sure, they're characters but they feel more like extensions of the Gems they are based on rather than individuals.

For further clarification, look at Garnet and Stevonnie. Garnet feels like her own woman (for lack of a better word) while Stevonnie is very clearly just Steven and Connie fused. While Sardonyx exists in the middle of this spectrum, she feels more akin to Stevonnie in that it's difficult to see her being anything more than something that may occasionally happen as opposed to her own gem like Garnet and the gems that make her who she is.



Dunno, I stopped reading when it called Catastrophe an Amazon show...It's Channel 4's! Amazon didn't even help with production cost!
