Pretty sad story when you think about it

Connie will eventually outgrow Steven, and he'll watch helplessly as all of his friends and loved ones die one by one. The only way to avoid the inevitable future would be to either die before they do, or pass his powers onto another kid like his mom did, cursing them to the same tragic fate.

That remains to be seen. While he does have his mother's gem and the benefits that come with it, he is more human than gem. He ages, has to eat, has to breathe and has bodily functions to attend to.

reply

It's assumed that he has to eat. The other gems can eat even though they don't have to. Maybe he just thinks he has to but doesn't really.

In the zombie apocalypse, you don't have to be the fastest runner, you just can't be the slowest.

reply

Nah, he eats because he has to like any other person, its a trait he has on his human side, and he likes it a bit more than he probably should given that he's a bit overweight.

He's half human so can die from old age, as shown in Too Many Birthdays when he gets so old he's on death's door. Based on the actual birthday episode Steven ages slower than the average human does, but not too slow.
