Could a film with talking animals & a kid win the Best Picture Oscar?

I haven't seen every movie released in 2016 but I have seen quite a few of them, and I have not seen a movie that equaled THE JUNGLE BOOK. Everything about it was superlative, especially the digital effects. What will be its competition for Best Picture? I have no doubt it will get nominated, but is there another movie that has had the critical (95% on Rotten Tomatoes) and box office success ($364 million domestically, $966 million worldwide) that equals THE JUNGLE BOOK? It would be quite remarkable for a movie with only one human actor on screen and a bunch of talking animated animals to win the Oscar for Best Picture, but I really think this film has the chance.

It's a very good movie, but not good enough for a best picture nom. Most of the "Oscar-Bait" movies will be coming out in the next couple of months.

I have to disagree with you. Perhaps back in the days when only five films were nominated for Best Picture THE JUNGLE BOOK, being a remake of a cartoon for kids, would have been shut out. But now that there can be up to ten films nominated for Best Picture, I think it is a shoe-in for the nomination. It was received with almost universal praise from critics and it is very admired in the industry for its technical breakthroughs. It really is another groundbreaking film. In addition, it told a great, epic story in a very artistic and at times emotionally moving way. There is absolutely no doubt in my mind that it will be nominated. I just can't think of a film that has been released so far in 2016 that could give it a run for its money. I know the "prestige" films are coming out come the holidays and then I might be able to think of one, but right now, THE JUNGLE BOOK really is the best film I have seen in 2016.
