Am I the only one who thinks ScarJos voice does not fit a giant Snake?

I'm just watching the Jungle Book movie... And I have nothing against the fact they decided a woman should perform the role of Kaa, I just don't know what ScarJo brings to the role. Were they trying to go the seductive route? I don't think it was very effective.

Her voice just didn't match the scene, in my opinion. It's not a bad performance, it just doesn't seem right to me.

Okay, maybe if they used the song in the credits in an actual sequence, that would have been worthwhile.

reply

I agree with you. A number of the voices didn't fit.

Bill Murray totally blew it as Baloo, they should have had John Goodman.

I think I had no problem with ScarJo as snake. her whole complete monologue on human and RED FLower and Back story was fitting and serene.

and bill murray was fantastic as Baloo, John would have been too close to the original Baloo voice but he would miss out on the sly and lazy and witty personality of this New Baloo. so 100 points to Bill there.

But Murray is not playing Baloo, he was simply playing Bill Murray. His act has grown pretty tired.

John Goodman has already played Baloo, in the animated Jungle Book sequel.

Yeah I thought she sounded great in the trailer, but during the movie it was too human or young (?)...Sultry and sexy voice, but maybe Tilda Swinton, Cate Blanchett, would have had a more fitting and more mature voice for Kaa.

Haha I don't know how that is, but I just saw Captain America 2016 so Black Widow is stuck in my mind when I hear her. As for a male voice probably, given the situation of him trying to eat Mowgli might've made it too scary, sorry for discriminating a bit...But there was a falsely charming and almost motherly thing about Kaa. Also, in the animated versions, Kaa was always a little androgynous to me, sounding like freaking Winnie The Pooh cause the same voice actor, I know. Benedict Cumberbatch though actually might've been perfect...Hmm...But he already played Smaug so...Sorry...I think I started talking to myself here.

reply

You're not the only one. I had my reservations as well.

reply

The problem really is that ScarJo has such a distinctive voice, it's impossible to hear her speak from the trees without picturing her face and not the snake. And then when you see Kaa talking, it's jarring.

reply

Not seductive exactly, more calming and disarming. Which makes sense since Kaa is hypnotising Mowgli.

The should have gotten Indian actress Rekha to voice Kaa (in an indian accent) would have made a lot more sense..she has a similar hypnotising and slow voice...
