So the bear can take on a giant snake but tiger no??

Doesn't make sense

It works for the plot. But yeah, a grizzly would own a tiger in real life. They are much bigger and stronger.

Baloo isn't a Grizzly Bear though. Grizzlies are only found in North America, not India.

He's meant to be a Sloth Bear which are the bears native to the Indian subcontinent.

Shere Khan is a fighter while Baloo is lazy.

It makes LESS sense when you take into account Baloo's character in the film.

Why would this rather cowardly, lazy bear have put himself at risk fighting the giant Kaa for a boy he'd never even seen before?

It was TOTAL plot convenience and totally inconsistent characterization.

Mowgli should have met Baloo after the log he was on just drifted to shore and Baloo makes up some convoluted rescue story to guilt Mowgli into helping him... OR... he DOES rescue Mowgli from Kaa, but in a comic fashion and almost by accident, in keeping with his presentation in the rest of his introductory scenes.

Because he was a BOY - how often do you see those in the jungle? - and Baloo knew he'd be smarter than the monkeys to get him what he wanted.

Also, is he really risking his life? The only time he was ever in danger was really in the fight with the tiger. The snake and monkeys seemed pretty one-sided.
