A mess. Didn't know if it wanted to be serious or not.

Could have been a thriller in the tradition of the source novel.

But then we get a bear chasing after honey whilst humming "Bear necessities"

I couldn't believe when I read his filmography that he played a toilet (no joke) in According to Jim

Are you aware at all of the Jungle Book source material? It's meant to be morality lessons mixed with action-adventure, tense moments, comical bits and a little melodrama.

reply

Yes. Written by Rudyard Kipling ........ not Roald Dahl.

I guess there is a new adaptation coming out in 2018. Directed by Andy Serkis. Automatically tells me there's goingto be gratuitous mo-cap, but it is already being billed as a darker take on the story.

Priceless!! 👍

I totally agree with you. It's like Favreau couldn't make up his mind about which direction/tone to take for the movie. As a result it swings like a pendulum from one end to the other.

The songs, especially "I wanna be like you", seemed overly forced to me.

I prefer the original animated one.

"I'm the dude, playing a dude that's disguised as another dude".

I don't see that at all. The film featured tense moments, light-hearted humor, action adventure along with sentimentality just like the Jungle Book requires.

And the songs constitute like what, two minutes of screentime? It wasn't meant to be a musical.
