He does realize they're making fun of him, right?

Let's face it, anything that goes on with Mike Tyson is a freak show. This show looks like they're taking advantage of that. He's like a crazy old bear they bring out to perform even though it's mauled people in the past. We've got Mike loving pigeons, wildly mispronouncing words and generally being a lunatic. It's a minstrel show they can get away with.

It's a brilliant masterstroke, knowing no one in the black community would ever go to bat for Mike Tyson. Mike is America's craziest black person, and they've got him on puppet strings. He's too out there to know better. This is some crazy exploitation going on here.

I agree. License seems to be in a good place right now. I think it's okay if he has a little fun with himself, and what better place than Adult Swim. I enjoyed the tOon.

I don't think he realizes it. Granted, he was never that bright to begin with. Shame too. Had he not made the wrong choices in life, he could've been the next Jack Dempsey or Muhammad Ali. People like Mayweather and Pacquioa would hold him in high regard. Instead, he's a washed up bum stuck doing stupid cartoons with him as the punchline.

If you've read articles about the show and seen him do interviews lately, you'd know that he is in on the joke. Just like when he was in the "Hangover" movies, he can laugh at himself.

yeah...it'd be hard to not realize it. it's kind of obvious when people make fun of you if they're laughing at you when you're not trying.

if you're not laughing with them, they're laughing at you.

i can make fun of myself if it's not an ambush. it's fun and funny to think about the things you've done.

Trust me , Its highly unlikely anyone laughs at mike tyson if hes not laughing too washed up or not hes still mike tyson lol.

I was surprised he talks that way in real life. Over at the Mike Tyson board there is this thread:

I doubt he was always like that. Could be drugs, but more likely injury from Boxing damaging part of his brain.

He always did speak with the lisp and kind of high voice. However, he is a case of getting a lot of success at a very young age and had a lot of bad people whispering in his ears after the death of his trainer and father figure Cus D'Amato. That was about the time when he began to display some mental issues.

I think Tyson is all too keenly aware of how society see him if you respectfully allow him the intelligence he has to make such a decision. Check out the documentary Tyson. The man is very well read and I get the impression that he might be the only honest celebrity in entertainment. I've never seen any other celebrity past or present who ever bared their own soul more than Tyson. How many celebrities are willing to make a mockery of their own insecurities or tortured use of language?

Interesting that you point out the supporting characters. I always thought the characters represented something in his life. IE: The pigeon that talks could represent his first friends growing up. Mike has mentioned in his documentary that his first real friends were pigeons. The ghost is someone dear that departed from his lofe but yet he still hears him talking and giving advice, aka Cus' D' Amato, Tyson's mentor that passed during his peak to prime days. Finally, the adopted daughter I feel as a sort of compensation for his other daughter's passing. All-in-all, this series feels like something that is truly derogatory towards the likes of Tyson, although he has stated himself that he is living paycheck to paycheck, so how could he turn down an offer for his own TV show? (despite it being a total joke on him.)

Yes, in apprance. It would be too bleak if the ghost was actually modeled after Cus. Im referring to the significance of the Marquess character.
