The scene where Gus gets a glass of wine

So that was his last scene of the series, was that meant to be a parallel to the last scene of the Granite State Episode of Breaking Bad? In that scene Walt doesn’t finish his drink because he has more to do, yet Gus did finish his drink and then he exited stage left. Was that what they were intending? Because I can’t think of anything else. Except maybe Gus swirled the glass of wine just like how Howard swirled the can of ginger ale.

I think so yeah.

Except Gus leaves something pleasant because of the path he's chosen. Walt leaves his chosen punishment for a better plan.

But they are so similar.....first smelling their drinks before tasting it, like men of high class. Even thinking about their partners in crime before leaving. Makes them squaring off against eachother in Breaking Bad season 4 even more satisfying to watch.

I think it was meant to show that despite all his wealth and power, he can never truly let himself become close or intimate with another human being again given the danger he'd be putting both them and himself if someone were to try to come after him.

Gus is gay, and the setup of that scene was that he and the waiter were hitting it off, hence why Gus decides to leave before the guy comes back to continue their conversation, which seemed to be rapidly evolving into something more intimate. He knows he can't get too close to anyone, so he quickly finishes his drink and goes on his way. It's a sad scene in many ways, especially given his ultimate fate in Breaking Bad.

That makes sense, I can get behind this.

Is that what Gus thought about the waiter?

reply

Maybe? We know he’s gay.
