What does Saul Goodman deserve?

Gould [the co-creator] later said, "Anybody who watches the show carefully and is thinking about where this is all going, one of the questions you have to ask yourself is: 'What does this man deserve?' [...] Not just: 'What's going to happen to him?,' but 'What would be a deserving end to this? Does Jimmy McGill/Saul Goodman/Gene Takovic [sic] deserve death? Does he deserve love? What would be the most fitting end for this guy – for the show?' Obviously the end for everybody is death, but that may not be where we leave this guy. Is there any way for him to win any redemption after everything that he's done?

So what in your opinion does he deserve?

A lifetime 10% employees discount at Cinnabon.

Jail time for all the crimes he committed. I watched that last episode of American Greed, what a scoundrel!

A lifetime seat at the breakfast table with Walt Jr.

He’d rather a bullet to the head.

reply

Cinnabon should make him a regional manager at least.

We’re talking at the bare minimum.

Covid-19

He already had a heart attack, probably from the vaccine so that's as good as COVID.

reply

It's fiction, vaccines doesn't give anyone heart attacks.

reply

Tell that to all the European footballers who "suddenly" had cardiac issues on the field.

We'll see where season 6 goes, but to this point I don't think Jimmy has done much wrong. He has scammed some people, but he's always choosy, and scams only greedy, wicked people. He gave back the millions he could have kept, even including his retainer in the bag. He could have left the skaters to die, but risked his own life to return and negotiate their freedom. He doted on Chuck, even at the risk of being seen at the copy shop when Chuck fell. He gave up the chance to get the $1 million plus from the Sandpiper settlement, and publicly humiliated himself, just to save Irene's friendships. When Geraldine Strauss died, and her next of kin called, he remembered all the details of her will, and seemed deeply saddened, and regretted not being able to attend her memorial.

Some people on this board act like he's evil, but I really can't think of any truly bad thing he's done. He gets over on his opposition, and uses lies and tricks to achieve his goals, but never in ways that harm anyone. Whether it's fabricating a squat cobbler video, or scaring punks in a piñata shop, he always errs on the side of fairness and kindness.

My answer is that he deserves a happy ending.
