The best thing since Free Solo...

...so how did this one not get an Oscar too? It had everything from suspense, to a chase, to travel, feel-good romance, drama, views, good cast, high entertainment value, was thought provoking, you name it. My ramblings in no particular order:

I wish they had shown the exit a bit longer, it felt like the total solar eclipse where everyone is watching the moon cover the sun in anticipation, but once totality is over they are soon in their cars while the exact same thing is happening just in reverse. For me, getting away was just as interesting, it seemed too easy that no one questions them on the way down, why?

I think there should be an unwritten law about letting rooftoppers go up peacefully. There could be a waiver that the owner of the building and its insurance provider are not responsible for anything that might happen to them, with the mutual agreement they are not there on suicidal grounds or to damage any property. Ironically she got hurt running away from security. So everyone would be better off if they were simply allowed from the get-go, maybe less thrillful for them, sure, still challenging, but no one would think spending a day hiding from workers is fun. I've seen a movie about a guy slacklining between WTC towers, so why can't this sport be like that? I don't remember if that was allowed or not, but seemed like a proper event that people would pay to watch or whatever.

Also, parachutes. For me, climbing all that, even with the reward of "merely" being at the top, it would be a letdown having to climb down. It's like taking a ski lift and then taking it down too, instead of skiing down. Or mountain biking up a hill, then taking a car down (instead of that in reverse). The only things I could think of are that the parachute is probably too big of a backpack to be reasonable to climb with, and it does not make for a discreet getaway, as all eyes would be on them jumping and gliding from these towers. But the basejumping sport exists and those have to start from high enough places, so they might as well just. If they descend fast and far enough, they could quickly blend in and hide several blocks/boroughs off, maybe even getting away from the the security of the building itself with class, if they end up coming for them. And not to mention it would be a form of securing their lives (in a fun way, opposed to ropes).

I wonder, have they ever had sex on one of the rooftops? Ok, perhaps not after hiding for a day, cooking in their clothes, but when they said they are the first ones to see that view, that wasn't exactly true as the antenna installers and builders and crane operators see those kinds of views almost every day (and also get paid). But I'm sure people on the job don't come in lovely pairs nor they get down to it up there. But since they are a couple, they could. I guess they just won't show that in a movie.

I couldn't shake the feeling that a larger-than-expected part of the story was about the money and the glam, but then I realized they don't have other jobs, and earning something while they do what they love is the goal. I learned how the NFT thing helps creators especially when their country is making their lives difficult. Normally I can't stand instapeople and selfie sticks, but this couple's content made me recall a time when my feed was about photographers sharing their art and not just scantily clad ladies selling their wares.

It was also great that they kept the original language dialog, as I've only ever heard a girl speak Russian in either porn or on Twitch. So this felt more real than if they had dubbed it or used ADR voiceover.

The fact that today's tech enables drones to auto-circle around them and take great shots is pretty cool. That building looked huge because of the angles this enabled. For someone that won't even climb a simple ladder to clean the gutters (for good reason, as a ladder is more likely to slip (metal on metal gutters) and is out of your control, than if it's up to you to "merely" not lose balance or have a fear of heights), the views were vertigo-inducing and I was totally immersed. They really knew how to shoot and at what angles to convey that this is no joke. I think overall it was successfully made in a way that normal people don't want to imitate them but amazed by them. Like Alex Honnold's movie.

That's all. I wish them a long and prosperous life, doing whatever they like, without any one of them falling. Else that would be tragic and I'd spend at least a day mourning, as through this movie I felt like I got to know them as friends or something. They are super cute together and I hope their romance lasts as long as their fire burns.
