I'm looking forward to season two dropping next Friday. The show had plenty of twists and surprises. I thought the whole concept of supernatural keys was creative. I'll probably rewatch season one in the next few days so everything is fresh in my memory.
Who started the buzzword of saying when new movies, shows, music, etc., come out, it "drops" or is "dropping"? Dropping from what? And more importantly, why do sheep latch onto these things and spread them?
I'm not a word historian but drop is actually a real word that existed forever. It's not a stupid slang term or a made-up word. The 1982 song You Dropped a Bomb on me comes to mind. Drop it like it's hot has been used since at least the 90's.
After some online research, I stumbled across info about drop culture. Some marketers of streetwear would release a drop of new merchandise but only loyal customers would know it was coming. Drop culture has spread to other businesses.
When I see a new show is coming on a streaming service, I like to spread the word so other people will know about it and post on it. This is a forum for people to post on their favorite shows and I like seeing more posts on my favorite shows.
Well, bombs do physically drop as well as dropping something hot is a physical dropping of something.
My point is the propagation of buzzwords, like getting vaccines "into people's arms" or military forces being referred to as "boots on the ground". Someone utters this and someone thinks it's cool or clever and repeats it, more sheep repeat it till it's the way these things are commonly spoken of, due to hive mind, sheep mentality. I'm not picking on you, specifically but honestly, it make me sick the way people mindlessly follow trends.
I fully agree about being irritated by the hive mind. Our language is losing wit, grace and elegance. Welcome to groupspeak, which is double-plus ungood.
I enjoyed it BUT I'm a big fan of the show. The little boy is good. He was the lone holdover from the 2017 version but I have not seen that one. I saw the 2011 pilot on youtube and it was a condensed version of season one.
