Brutal S5 finale

Thats really unexpected, I thought Claire would just be beaten up here and there...

why is Lionel so pissed about her posting a pregnancy advice article? Does he not think about the repucussion of his actions, surely he would know he will pay dearly for his trangression sooner or later right?

reply

Yeah it was a very challenging episode. I had to fast forward a lot of it b/c it's just too much. And I think it's a very cheap trick to have Lionel discover Claire's identity via an engraved plague--how stupid is that? This show has a lot of gratuitous violence and this episode is over the top.

reply

I think it was meant to reinforce the differences women faced in both the eras she lived. For us watching now, it's 'mid evil', but in fact it really was. Most women had little more rights than slaves or children. And while I wont excuse the use of rape as a (often used) plot point, it helps us understand the risks she takes in being a strong woman, or just the basic every day efforts she has to make.

It doesnt make much sense , he fought under Jamie command in the Militia so its not like Claire is some common folks. Unless lionel has a death wish he should know better than to mess with his wife.

reply

He fought under him grudgingly, and was still pissed about daughter. And as his final moments show, he was always clueless about reality.

reply

He wasnt alone in this so the whole group are also crazy enough to help him? pretty sure they know it wont end well. I guess they clearly underestimated Jamie ability to muster his men in such a short time and track them down so swiftly.

reply

It was a familial/community based group, and the brothers clearly used the strong arm to intimidate everyone into following along. Granted, some of them were just as twisted, but a few were clearly cowed into following their agenda. Pretty typical for a backwater, isolated group power structure.

When he grabbed Claire, I just shook my head, knowing that he would briefly live to regret it. But as to him knowing what was going to happen, wouldn't you think that people who planned to commit murder would not do it if Jessica Fletcher was around? Or that when a prosecutor hears Perry Mason is on the case, they might as well just drop the charges and save a lot of time and money. LOL

reply

Yeah, it didn't seem like (1) he would take so many chances just because of the writings of Dr. Rawlings or (2) he would be able to enlist so many others to join in with him in such a crazy scheme. Feels like the writers needed some conflict in the two final episodes and this was the best they could come up with. Really should have planned something better though.

They love showing rape in this show don't they? Jamie and Claire both and Brianna

Fuck sake
