What happened to his close college friends?

Especially Brian, why did he vanish completely at some time of the movie? In the later years there's no contact between him and Stephen, nor there is an explanation to what happened to him.
Or did I miss something?

i think brian is actually a made up character. Stephen did have close friends at cambridge, but not i think a Brian. One of his closest friends was a chemist called Robert Donavan, he was stephen's best man at his wedding to Jane. Roge penrose, another physicist, was a close friend, he and Stephen worked together, but he is older than stephen, and I don't think they were students together.

Yeah, after making this thread I did some research and found out that Brian is a made up character. Still, within the universe of the movie, the way he abruptly vanished was silly.
Anyway, I rather enjoyed the movie.

He didn't vanish in the movie. He was shown in the audience of the big speech at the end.

It would have been unrealistic to have him be a daily presence - do you see your college friends every day?

He was shown at the end, smiling proudly at Stephen, and that was the film's way of showing they were still friends.

reply

I'm still at college, so yeah, I still keep in touch with my college friends :P

Anyway, I didn't notice him in that scene. Thanks for the reply.

reply

Yep, he was definitely there at the end.
