Excellent film, but he really comes off as a pig in the end

His wife dedicates practically her whole life to him and his care, and he leaves her for some younger nurse? She was what they call a *starf**ucker* and he was easily led enough to buy it. I felt terrible for Jane.

reply

She had already got another man, jonathan, to whom she has now been married for many years. So she wasn't entirely dedicated.

reply

I thought he was letting her go. They were both intelligent people and knew the relationship had run its course, I wonder if her Christian beliefs prevented her from seeking a divorce, so Stephen had to do it. After some difficult years they appear to be on friendly terms now, and appeared together at the premiere.

reply

She CHOSE to live that life. She had the door open for her by Stephen and his family. She could've left. She chose to stick by him. She chose to cheat on him too. I'm not going to attack her for cheating on Stephen. So you shouldn't attack Stephen for leaving.

Get off your soapbox while I play you a tune on the tiniest violin.

I don't know what happened in real life so I cannot say I am correct. But in the movie from what I understood she admitted she had feelings for Jonathan but did not act on them because she wanted to remain loyal to her husband and continued to care for him. So I don't think she actually cheated, but that's only how I perceive it!

she says in the book that their relationship did become physical eventually. This was difficult for stephen, and nudnoubtedly contributed to the breakup of their marriage. 'there were three people in this marriage' as someone else once remarked.
