I adore both leading ladies and I worry that this will be terrible...

So people are comparing this unfavorably to The Heat, with Melissa McCarthy and Sandra Bullock. In my opinion, The Heat was a great comedy that worked because it's two leads were well matched and because the studio wasn't going for a PG-13. When nothing extremely funny jumped out at me in the preview, and we found out this film is a PG-13, my hopes went down the drain. I was hoping this would be a raunchy comedy on the same par as The Heat. I don't see how this can be any good. I hope I'm wrong, as I adore the work of both leads here. I just don't feel good about it.

It's slow to promote, that's not a good sign.

You're right, The Heat succeeded on the comedic timing and chemistry between the two leads. Even so, it was successful but not exactly a hit. I don't think the rating had anything to do with it.

The previews we've seen of Hot Pursuit display none of the chemistry between the leads that The Heat had. The stars of HP have talked about it, but I don't see it.

The upcoming movie that is getting good reactions is Melissa's new film, Spy. It will start to roll out internationally at the same time that Hot Pursuit is released domestically. Not a good omen for Hot Pursuit.

It's not what a movie is about, it's how it is about it.

The thing about The Heat is that even though Bullock played a "stick up her butt" character, she still comes across fundamentally sympathetic and likeable in a way that Reese Witherspoon generally does not (regardless of whether that's "fair" or not).

And while the director of this directed the highly profitable "The Proposal", the combined writing and directing credits on this don't inspire a ton of confidence.
