I think they give good performances. Just the writing isn't all that funny.

Well, the only other film Vergara was in that I am aware of was Smurfs. And although it was a pretty awful movie, her line "the whole world will know the name Garbage Smell" was one of the few funny lines in the movie. I'm not a big watcher of Modern Family, but from what I
have seen, she's plenty funny in the role she plays.
Off the top of my head, the two films I know Reese has been in are Bee Movie and Monsters vs Aliens. I'm a big fan of MvA, and I've always thought it was a funny and worth-while film. After googling, I remember seeing her in Walk the Line, Cruel Intentions, Just Like Heaven, and Pleasentville, all of which I enjoyed more than this.
