I loved it!
I hadn't expected to like this as it is a sequel by a different author, but I thoroughly enjoyed it and thought the cast, location and story were really excellent.

Generally, I think the positives outweighed the negatives... The acting was excellent and, due to the fab locations, beautiful costumes, etc., it looked absolutely gorgeous... The negatives are due to the writing... The pacing was somewhat ponderous... As others have said, Elizabeth's wit and humour didn't really come across. (Anna Maxwell Martin is a very talented actor. So, this was definitely the fault of the writing...) And, I didn't really see the point of including Lady Catherine de Bourgh - excellent though Penelope Keith was - as that brief little scene didn't really add anything. But, while it could have been better with a few tweaks, I did enjoy it.
shareAs others have said, Elizabeth's wit and humour didn't really come across...This sums up my one slight niggle about the story. Elizabeth seemed very careworn; I'd have liked her to show more fighting spirit. I agree about Lady Catherine, she did seem a bit shoehorned into the story just for the sake of having her in there. On the whole, though, I had a good time watching the story unfold. share
Pride and predjudice is my favorite book and I normally don't like fan fiction. But I thought I would give it a chance. I wasn't won over but thought it was alright. But what really irritated me was that the writers tried to hard to establish a link between this "sequel" and Pride and Predjudice. Not so much the flash backs but the things like:
Mrs Bennett finding the portrait of Mr Wickham. Lady Catherine making an appearance. Denny as Wickhams friend (after 6 years really?). Fitzwilliam as Georgiana's admirer. They use familiar characters but spend to much time explaining them. If you are familiar with the novel you don't need so much explaining and refering to P&P. and If you are new to P&P you wouldn't care about all the links to P&P. The balance sometimes seems wrong.
