Matthew Goode as Wickham - what's not to like?
I think the title of the thread said it all really... Swoon. Ep 3 is the best one. Where are my smelling salts?

I watched just to see Matthew. It was a good mystery inspired from beloved characters from P&P. (I wish sister Kitty was part of the story because I've always imagined Elizabeth having a good influence on her once Lydia was gone.). Anyway, Matthew looks dashing in those clothes! There is one scene with a kiss and it's the most seductive looking kiss I've ever seen, on the small screen at least.
I thoroughly enjoyed it. They played in two parts here.

I would have preferred Tom Hiddleston!
Boo Hoo! Let me wipe away the tears with my PLASTIC hand!--Lindsey McDonald (Angel)
I still think the casting was wrong. As marvelous as Matthew Goode was, I think he would've made a better Darcy and Matthew Rhys a better Wickham. MG was even taller than MR. Having said that, MG was sexy in period clothes
shareI agree. I feel it would have been more believable if they switched their roles. I couldn't really buy Matthew Goode as the "bad boy" so to speak and it seemed he was more Darcy than Matthew R. On the other hand M.R. has that kind of look IMO that seems menacing. Also maybe others won't agree but it seemed like there was a bit more chemistry between Lizzie and Matthew (as Wickham)..her and Darcy as a married couple fell kind of flat for me.
shareMaybe they didn't cast him as Darcy because Lizzie would look like his mother, lol.
Global Warming, it's a personal decision innit? - Nigel Tufnel
Loved Rhys as Darcy, probably one of my favourite Darcy portrails.
Matthew Goode was better as Wickham, because Wickham is this pretty boy charmer type and that's what Matthew Goode is to me. Darcy was never this debonair charmer.
M R and M G are mates and they did this fun piece for 'Interview Magazine'. They are going to be doing a programme about wine together - Mr Darcy and Mr Wickham wine tasting. Ha Ha!
It will probably be them getting drunk and mucking around if this interview is any indication! Can't wait to see it.

He's good looking, and that works for Wickham, but what's missing is the personality. Not the fault of the actor, but the script. George Wickham was written as someone who could charm anybody, impress anybody, have "all the appearance of goodness" even if he was a scoundrel. This Wickham doesn't have that appearance of goodness, that convincing superficial charm. He always seems to be sneering, heartless, openly manipulative and conniving. A villain who charmed his way out of everything, or tried to, would be consistent with Jane Austen's Wickham, but not this character.
Tell me the truth. Are we still in the game?

Just about the only Wickham who had the looks for the role. Other Wickhams have not been nearly handsome enough to be convincing.
