Is Wickham supposed to be more attractive than Darcy in fan-fiction?

Because my goodness, Matthew Goode outdistances himself on that particular scale! 😍 And Darcy, as we all know, is the model of male beauty and character we all aspire to! (at least in the original Pride and Prejudice) Sorry, Matthew Rhys and Tom Ward. 😂 Also, this fan-fiction kinda messes with the original story because Darcy acts like the responsible father of all, Elizabeth acts like Miss Marple (detective), and Wickham is portrayed like a ruthless Casanova heartthrob whose favourite hobby is taking the virginity of all the pretty girls he meets in his way. I'm not sure how I feel about this particular production to be honest, as much as I love the original P&P and the actors who played in this mini-series and who I've seen in other productions before. All I know for sure is that the cinematography is beautiful (as in all English period productions) and so is Matthew Goode who should play Darcy, at least in a future, more romantic version of Pride and Prejudice because this guy is definitely Darcy material!

Wickham is supposed to be a very attractive man, Elizabeth succumbs to his charms, and clearly so did Miss Darcy, and later lydia. Darcy is also supposed to be attractibe, but perhaps not as ostentatiously attractive as Wickham.

Matthew Rhys has now probably become my favourite Darcy. 

If there aren't any skeletons in a man's closet, there's probably a Bertha in his attic.

Wickham is supposed to be more attractive than Darcy, period.

Darcy is supposed to be good-looking, but Wickham is supposed to be so attractive that he's able to get away with a whole lot.

Don't let the 1995 version get in the way of what the book has to say. Nowhere does the book say that Darcy is drop-dead gorgeous. 1995's Wickham is nowhere near as good-looking as he's supposed to be. Check out 1980. That Wickham is very attractive (even though I don't love blonds, this guy is attractive and charming - 1995's Wickham is neither [IMO, of course]).

Thank you for the info. I will check out the film versions you have mentioned. I also need to re-read Pride and Prejudice now! 

I read that Rupert Graves was going to be cast as the '95 Wickham but something came up and he was unable to take the role...more's the pity.

In the book I got the impression that Wickham appears to be more handsome but that is partly due to his manner and expressions as much as his physical appearance alone. Based on these quotes:

"To be sure, Lizzy," said her aunt, "he is not so handsome as Wickham; or, rather, he has not Wickham's countenance, for his features are perfectly good. (ch43)

Had Elizabeth been able to encounter his eyes, she might have seen how well the expression of heartfelt delight diffused over his face became him (ch58)

But I do agree with Julie-30 that Wickham is supposed to be attractive enough to get away with a whole lot. He quickly draws the attention of almost all the women.

Yes, and I recall the book also states that when he first came to Meryton, every young woman in the neighborhood was completely smitten with him. That must imply not only good "countenance" but some looks out of the ordinary, in my opinion.

The casting of Mr Wickham in the 1995 series is almost as awful as the casting of Elizabeth in DCTP. He looks about fifteen-twenty years older than the character Wickham, who was supposed to be in his mid-twenties, and that of course makes him appear even more unpleasant than he is intended to be, as it is generally easier to forgive selfish behavior in a young person.

Matthew Goode indeed is attractive/charismatic enough to get away with anything!
