Just saw this at TIFF

It was pretty good. Had me on the edge of my seat throughout.

My only criticism is some of the 'effects' used...

(Spoiler alert!)
It was a little bit overkill when the main characters get injured, especially Alex. In the scene where his injured toenail is revealed, the camera kept focusing on the toe over and over and OVER again! We get it, he hurt his toe, its gross.. same goes for the injuries he sustains from the bear. The cosmetic effects were over the top to the point where it felt like I was watching one of those weird over the top gory Japanese movies with cheap effects..

Other than that, the movie was great. Cast was awesome, story was pretty great, no other complaints really... certainly doesn't make me want to go camping any time soon, thats for sure!

what happens to eric balfour's character?

He is fine/safe throughout the film. His role is secondary - a strange Irish tour guide who the main characters meet. Only appears near the beginning and at the very end.
