None of you twirps would survive a real bear attack

Let's face it. None of you pimply faced internet geeks would have the tools, know how, or balls to fight off a bear in a real life situation.

You'd all be dead.

Several people have fought off bears, it's well documented. And two or more people together have a much better chance; bears like to go after one and no more.

Bear spray typically achieves better outcomes than firearms...

The question is not one of marksmanship or clear thinking in the face of a growling bear, for even a skilled marksman with steady nerves may have a slim chance of deterring a bear attack with a gun. Law enforcement agents for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service have experience that supports this reality -- based on their investigations of human-bear encounters since 1992, persons encountering grizzlies and defending themselves with firearms suffer injury about 50% of the time. During the same period, persons defending themselves with pepper spray escaped injury most of the time, and those that were injured experienced shorter duration attacks and less severe injuries. Canadian bear biologist Dr. Stephen Herrero reached similar conclusions based on his own research -- a person’s chance of incurring serious injury from a charging grizzly doubles when bullets are fired versus when bear spray is used.

Absolutely not. Both that and Herro's study have been utterly debunked. Their data for firearms include people small mammal hunting with 22, people bird hunting with birdshot, people hiking with 38s, people in groups where the armed person is separated by distance and the unarmed person is attacked -- even people sleeping while on hunting trips with rifles nowhere near them -- as "defense with firearm."

Those studies' underlying data show incidents where carried 357mag and 44mag are used the person has about triple the survival rate compared to bear spray.

In Timothy Treadwell's case trying to fight off the bear with his girlfriend ended with both being dead and eaten.

Those were Grizzly bear... which can weigh 500-800lbs plus. Black bear are smaller (100-400lbs), mostly afraid of people and rarely attack anyone. Besides that, the chances of seeing one aren't all that great either.

Also, OP is probably the biggest weakling in the thread.

People with a proper handgun guns have higher survival rates facing a bear.

Yes some people will shoot themselves in the foot. More people will live
