why not keep blowing the whistle for others to hear?

Just saw the movie and while I liked much te intense bear scenes, I totally didn't understand the way to not explain how she would not continue to use the whistle for people to locate her or her flare was only used at night to walk.
Why not use the flare into the air when the helicopter started to come over?

She was in a tree when the helicopter flew over, she didn't have the flare handy. She needed her hands to hang onto the tree. She only had one flare.
She was too far away from civilization to bother with the whistle.
