What species of bear was it?

Black or Brown?

Brown bears are larger, but think I have read/seen on TV that Black bears are less afraid of humans, and more aggressive towards humans, where a brown bear prefer to avoid humans completely.

But to be fair, even a less then average black bear, is more then a match for an above human in hand to hand fighting. At least that is what I think.

Racist? I'm writing about bears, not humans.

It was a black bear. But from what I know, it should have retreated after they fought back. But I know of some black bear attacks in Alaska where they aggressively attacked people. One woman was chased up their cabin and eaten by the bear. I think that was in the 80s or 90s. Grizzlies have an obvious hump on their backs brown bears and grizzlies are more aggressive towards their prey.

I thought it was a guy in a bear suit.

That bear was smarter than the average bear.

I went to a bear safety seminar a couple of years ago, they said there is really no such thing as a "brown bear" that people always talk about. There are "brown" and "cinnamon" variations of the black bear. Then there's the grizzly bear, which is usually brown in color, larger than a black bear, but they actually do have a variation of color as well, and there are black grizzlies. I saw one last year, and it was stunning and terrifying.

Bergh what you say is rubbish!
Black and brown bear are two distinct species!

:D

Black bears and grizzlies are two distinct species, each with color variations. But... people often call the grizzly a brown bear. The movie takes place in Ontario, there are only black bears there, no grizzlies.

Brown bears and black bears are two distinct species. You got one website, I got the world's knowledge of bears.
Grizzly bears (Ursus arctos ssp.) are a subspecies of North American brown bears
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grizzly_bear

American black bear (Ursus americanus) is in a species for it self, grizzly and Kodiak is a subspecies of North American brown bears, therefore the scientist and the rest of the world says brown bears and black bears.

That you have been on one source saying something else make them a fool, compared to the world's scientific knowledge.
You have been fooled.

Then we really are on the same page, I think I mistook what you were originally saying.

People around here think that there are grizzly bears, and that there are "brown bears", and black bears. When I had my incident with a grizzly many people would say "how do you know it was a grizzly and not a brown bear". The fact that she was 950 pounds of bitchy wasn't enough of a clue...
