WTF ...why all the hate?
i came here to sing praises for this film only to find how BAD it actually is???
lmao yall are a bunch of lame NPC *stupid* motherfuckers.
every single negative thread here (and I read them all) is hands down wrong about this film. this film is a tour de force.
it's well done, as far as I can see, on every front. the tone, the acting, the cinematography, the story, the pathos/theme/writing/characters.... are all very well done. in fact, IMHO it actually stands out in a time of overabundance of sequels and marvel horseshit shoved down our throats. (there are very few good movies made since 2010-ish so when one like this comes along, it it a breath of fresh air for a real movie lover; or, it should be)
the 'lingering tension' in this film is palpable. the sustained pressure on the Abel character plays like a 'bass line' through the whole film. What's not to love? I have watched this movie several times and I find it impossible to not instantly empathise with Abel every time, no matter where I start up in the timeline. IMO Oscar commands a great performance in this. You can FEEL the desire, the pining in his character, for a resolution to the tension that keeps piling up on him. You can FEEL his pressure from living every day at the edge of 'the cliff,' about to lose everything.
I will also add that the period costumes/sets were very well done, and the sepia filters used in filming really added to the '1981' feel, as did the winter/snowy landscape.
some people don't know when something good is staring them right in the face.
I guess 'don't cast pearls before swine' applies here.
If you're PREDISPOSED to hate a film, why waste your time in the first place?????
