Space Monkeys
Was somewhat enjoying this until that stupid space monkey scene. Ruined the rest of the movie.

shareLike the moon car chase scene.. the no gravity rabid space monkey scene was unique in film.
Although this is a cerebral movie, it needed some sort of action...I am glad they went for something original.
Its unique but pointless. Going to rescue those people doesn't affect the outcome the movie. Its more a of filler like the space moon pirate scene. I would cut those two scenes out if I was the editor.
shareInteresting observation, I have to agree that they are pointless... However other movies 'Apocalypse Now' also had these types of random encounters, but they did not feel like filler..both were mission based.
Perhaps it is because 'space based' movies are more prosaic then jungle based, random encounters can seem like filler.
It was one of multiple attmepts to show that the original crew was incompetent and therefore it was ok for pitt to kill them.
shareYour enjoyment lasted about 45 min longer than mine. Seeing falling untethered workers free fall at speeds beyond Earth Gravity (9.8M/s squared) annoyed the fuck out of me and that was just the opening scene. In fact, they fell faster than Building 7. Lucky for Brad he had a parachute. Even though falling debris (not burned up in the re-entry) tore holes in it. It got stupider from there.
sharethe strcture seems to be terrestrial, just very tall. I dont think they were at any point high ehough for atmospheric burn.

And that seemed really stupid. Just put the thing in orbit.

Well, yes and no. If we had materials that could do such a space elevator structure that would cut the costs of putting things in orbit by so much it would absolutely be a great idea. Unfortunatelly currently we simply dont have alloys that could actually hold this as the physics dont work out.

I seriously doubt we would ever have the technology, and I'm fairly certain that we'll never have the alloys.
๐
Yes it did, REALLY stupid! There were so many glaring scientific errors it was ridiculous! And the whole idea of building something that friggin' tall is ridiculous! Just put it in orbit at 1/10 the cost!
๐
The movie was already a shit show and then that happened....serious eye rolling.

Actually I believe they were baboons, but it doesn't really matter. It was a stupid scene is a movie with SO many scientific errors, I lost count. Nice cinematography though. 6/10, and I'm being generous there.

Soave Monkeys would have been a better title for the film.
shareNotice how the baboons and Brad Pitt agree on which way is up.
shareWhat a funky monkey.
