Yeah, I still find it quite odd that they had those wacky moments. The climbing into the rocket part, like you said. And, all the stuff at the film's finale, where Pitt magically propels himself on EXACTLY the right trajectory to get to his spacecraft, and uses a piece of spacecraft to protect himself from all those pieces of ring. Then, the explosion (again!) propels his spacecraft on EXACTLY the right trajectory to get back to Earth.
It really takes you out of the movie when this stuff is going on. And, they people who are drawn to this movie are seeing it because they are likely more science minded.
