Looks great but is it another Disney/Fox flop?
My goodness...every Fox film released since Disney took over have been horrible money-losers.
shareMy goodness...every Fox film released since Disney took over have been horrible money-losers.
shareName them considering disney took over in may , you love rubbing disneys nose in it dont you queen ?
shareDark Phoenix?
Stuber?
Dark Phoenix was made by fox , before Disney took over you cant pin that on disney
shareUnderstood...just saying that Disney has lost gobs of money on 2 of thethree Fox films they released since they took over. I hope Ad Astra isn't another one.
shareI predict 200 million for ad adastra
shareDomestic or worldwide?
shareWW
shareThat would be awful.
shareWhy would it?
share200 million worldwide on a big budget film like this?
Are you serious? That would barely cover the P&A cost let alone the production budget.
I'd say more than twice that to make money.
I like Gray but I'm still not convinced Pitt can carry this type of film. And why no TIFF? Gravity had huge buzz coming in. This one doesn't.
[–] QueenFanUSA (2170) a day agoHow does Disney lose money on Ad Astra when Disney neither fronted, invested, nor paid for the Production or even P&A for Ad Astra? Disney is now handling the Distribution for Ad Astra and in effect will be paying itself for distributing the film.
Understood...just saying that Disney has lost gobs of money on 2 of the three Fox films they released since they took over. I hope Ad Astra isn't another one.
20th Century FoxConspicuous in it's absence is the name Disney.

Latest is $18-20mil for the weekend.
There's a bottleneck between It, Hustlers, Rambo, Ad Astra and Downton Abbey to win the weekend.
The New Yorker latest edition just interviewed the director Grey. He lamented the current focus on box office gate by both the public and press. Asked by a doctor if he has seen Avengers Endgame, which Grey replied 'no' and the doctor asked 'why not', Grey responded "Because I'm not 9"
He makes a good point about focus on the box office and it's equation that it is a good movie. In 1974 The Godfather II and Chinatown were beaten (presumably with his right foot) at the box office by 'The trial of Billy Jack'
"The Trial of Billy Jack"
I've never even heard of that movie.
I have never seen it. The original 'Billy Jack' was not half bad though. A kind of low budget movie made for the hippie crowd. Tom Laughlin plays a ex Green-Beret who defends a small Hippie like community in a intolerant conservative town.
shareBut the serious movies were much higher on the charts than they are today. And even though 74 isn't the best example, back then the top box office films were an eclectic mix.
Look at the year before.

Nice add...interesting that the only kid friendly show in 1973 was Robin Hood.
I guess that it is difficult work creating one without computer graphics.
