All they had to do to get out was: to use the sheets & curtains to make a rope, and then to drop a couple of them down one balcony at a time!!!
I gave this piece of crap a 3 instead of 1, only because I kinda liked the way those 2 girls looked.

Not sure if you watched the film but the guy DID make a rope out of sheets, but it unraveled---or the building unraveled it--after he had attached it to the balcony and it fell to the ground.
But they could have set off the fire alarms, flashed lights from the windows for SOS (they weren't THAT isolated), but SOS signs in the windows, etc.
Unfortunately I DID watch every minute of it (out of boredom), and I saw the scene you mentioned, and it was just as stupid as the rest of the movie, because the guy was trying to make a rope that's 5 storeys high, yet to make the scenario even worse the rope just unravels miraculously as it was left unattended, untied and with no one holding it!

There was conduit running down the side of the building that can be seen when they are standing
on the balcony, I would have just climbed down it and took my chances.
But really, people are just stupid. I mean really, some people are just really
retarded, so to say that they should have done this or should have done that
really makes no sense. You can sit there all day and yell at the screen for
someone to do something, but at the end of the day it's what the characters
didn't do, becuase they just didn't think of it that matters, period.
Couldn't they have created a fire in a bin or something on the balcony to get attention from people seeing the smoke?
shareI don't think there was anybody around. Remember when they were on the beach? I don't think it was
during the season. that's how they were able take her dad's key without being noticed.
Yes they were at a shop, but that could have been miles away from where they were at.
Why not climb down to the balcony beneath theirs, break into that apartment, and use the phone there if the lift still wasn't working from that floor?
