Why no stairs?
Most multi-floor apartment buildings have stairs in addition to lifts, do they not?
If not, surely that would be in violation of some safety code.

Best case, grab a knife and cut through the drywall...
This movie sucked.
Respectfully, you need to travel across the world a little more or learn more about various construction practices outside of America/North America.
FYI, in many countries, drywall construction is not used at all, largely due to environmental factors. e.g., Hong Kong, with its warm sub-tropical climate year round, uses nearly exclusively all concrete construction in its residential towers and buildings. In nearly all cases in HK, there simply IS NO DRYWALL - just concrete.
Let's just say that hanging simple pictures in Hong Kong can be an adventure. :)
And back OT, I found this movie to be quite watchable. Competent performances and production, a pervasive sense of dread in the atmosphere and the score and some pretty chilling imagery.
Not a masterpiece of horror by any imagination, but far from "suck" IMO.
cheers!
