Kanan's name

Question: For my curiosity and sometimes too broad of memory, Is this past episode (so episode 2 of Season 3), the first time that Kanan's real name (Caleb Dume)was mentioned?

If so, for those that haven't read the comics that were linked to this (which I highly recommend if you haven't read it, it's Kanan- The Last Padawan) who was surprised that Kanan's name isn't his actual name. Mind you, I was kinda surprise that they let out his real name but it had to happen eventually.

I knew Kanan wasn't his birth name. I own and have read "New Dawn" and have also read the comics. So I wasn't surprised when Maul said, Caleb Dume.

It's all Kung Fu in the mud when we're high on Love.

I own all the books, but it was cool to hear them say it on screen.

I'm just happy to know the E in "Dume" is silent. Seriously, that was driving me crazy.

Anyone catch the relation of Kanan's names to the name of a road in Malibu?

Kanan Dume Road runs from Mulholland Highway to PCH (from Kanan road to Point Dume)

So, for those of us who don't read SW books, why did he go under a fake name? Is it just as said in season one that he went into hiding, thus he needed a new name, or was there something more behind this?

Kanan/Caleb survived Order 66 (the killing of the Jedis) at the end of the Revenge of the Sith. After Order 66, a lot of the surviving Jedis were hunted down and killed.

Spoiler for the comic book series (I have the book in my kindle but haven't finished it so someone else can spoil that)
Kanan was with his master Depa Billaba on a planet with their clone troopers. The order came in; the clones attacked, and Depa told Caleb to run and sacrificed herself so Caleb could get a head start. Caleb went on the run after finding out that the Jedi temple wasn't safe (via the Obi-wan transmission) and figuring out that the troopers that killed his master were coming after him. He landed himself with some smugglers and after spending time with them he came up his name of Kanan Jarrus from Janus Kasmir the smuggler who helped him blend in and not look like a Jedi as much

But yeah, I would take some time and find the comic book series 'The Last Padawan' and the book 'the new dawn'. They give alot of insight on the character of Kanan/Caleb and Hera (in the book)

A good comic book source that i have found online is Viewcomic.com.

Interesting caleb is kanan actual name. I could have sworn he was in one of the post revenge of the sith novels.
