Rebels die protecting Luke

Ezra's twin Suns comment seems likely to mean Tattooine. I think this sets up a scenario whereby we tie into the original trilogy and explain why none of these characters appear in the movies.

Maul likely goes to Tattooine for vengeance against Kenobi, perhaps he discovers about Luke and plans to inform the Empire. This does not need to be Maul but it seems most logical that he be the character to take this role.

The rebels perhaps arrive to find an injured ObiWan who tells them the secret Maul knows. The series ends with them in a scenario where they have to stop Maul passing that knowledge on. Unfortunately the only way for them to do it and save the last hope of the Jedi is self-sacrifice.

Cut to young Luke on the surface of Tattooine watching a battle up in space and a huge explosion, unaware of its significance to him. Ain't Beru calls and he grumpily gets up kicks a rock in silly temper at his humdrum life and runs to his house, silhouetted by the twin suns.

reply

It would be a suitable way to end the series.

reply

I could see that as one possible ending and a tie in to a new hope.

reply

Or Thrawn could just kill them so he won't be a complete failure on the show.

reply

Thrawn wasn't in A New Hope either, BUT I think Rogue One is the "missing link" between Rebels end and A New Hope. And Rogue One ends 10 minutes before ANH story starts.

I am a fan of TV crossovers. It connects different shows and puts them into same universe

reply

Thrawn shows up later in the old EU.

In this canon he is tasked with taking out the rebellion. He clearly fails miserably because of A new Hope happens. The Rebellion is still strong at the time and has won a major victory. Thrawn fails.

reply

Yeah I have a feeling Thrawn will die in Pebbles. Unless he is "recalled 2 his home world because of an extra galactic alien threat" I don't c him making it to the same year ANH happens.

Thrawn, at least EU Thrawn, would never of let the Rebellion succeed.

reply

Well, one: as I recall hearing about Thrawn when learning who he was from a very detailed fan video, he was stabbed to death by one of his own people. So Thrawn did die a rather pitaful way.

Two: Rebels is charting new canon and it's certainly reasonable that Thrawn can die in it and in a mroe spectacular way (though an intellectual commupance would be nice) in the show, so it's not unreasonable for him to die in Rebels.

And finally, three: there are lots of people in the old canon universe and new canon universe we don't see in the films, it doesn't mean they're all dead just because we didn't shoe-horn in dozens and dozens of characters that didn't need to be there into all the films thus far. It's entirely possible the rebels still exist after the events of the original trilogy. Certainly the Emprie never really went away and the sith are still there, so there will always be rebels fighting the good fight.

Keep in mind that Rebels is nothing more than just a silly Saturday morning cartoon for babies. No characters ever dies and there will never be any deep stories because that would traumatize the ages 5 and under kiddie viewers.

reply

Keep in mind Rebels has been planned seasons in advance, the writers/producers of this and other Star Wars films in the works are talking to each other and cooridinating, some characters are advancing and not staying in the same place, and a number of people have died including two Inquisitors; just not any main character -- yet.

Anyone who keps using the strawman cherry-picking comment of five year olds, or six year olds, or any other age, has obviously never had the displeasure of seeing episodes of series actually made for kids six years or younger.

Oh no, you reminded me of something.
Some cartoon I forgot the name of, one that I saw while looking after my five years old cousin.
The plot was basically this: School children get turned into zombies, uncool nerdy kid finds a way to save them, solution is to eat cassoulet and fart all over the other kids.

That's actually a cartoon shown to kids.
And people are complaining about Rebels... Sure it's not the most mature animated serie ever, it's kiddish at times but there's nothing like... that.

reply

Thrawn was calculating and decisive in Star Wars TIE Fighter, definitely check it out on GOG.com if you can.

reply

That would be pretty intense, but I mean that in a good way. That could be used as the series finale.
