'I can fly anything'

I have a feeling that line of dialogue was deliberate. Wedge and Poe are related somehow...I have a feeling.

reply

Wedge Antilles - White. Poe Dameron - Latino.

Yeah. Related.

reply

Poe Dameron-Cuban & Guatemalan; Cubans: many are Spanish (like my Missus); His maternal grandfather was French so yeah...Dameron is European even though he might need to shave more.

Why can't you wretched prey creatures understand that the Universe doesn't owe you anything!?

reply

Poe Dameron's background was covered in the 4-part comic series "Shattered Empire". His mother was a member of Rogue Squadron, his father one of the commandoes that accompanied Han Solo to Endor.

It's more likely to simply be a throwaway line indicating Wedge's confidence in his ability - something he shares with Poe Dameron and indeed Luke Skywalker.

reply

Sorry poe has no mysterious backstory...pretty much no chance that wedge is poes dad and we have to remember that Poe was originally wedge Antilles on jakku(homage to that idea)

reply

Nah, it's Lor San Tekka who was Wedge. But Denis Lawson refuse to come back just to die in the first scene.

reply

We know who Poe parents are, and Wedge isn't his father.
However, he could have taught Poe, leading to him saying "I can fly anything" too as a form of tribute.
