interesting probably very true about drive ins , but i'm sure of straight to vhs from various celebratory documentaries i can recollect which i've watched over the years about the genre. then again it could just be a little bit of revisionism too.. i didnt live through it so i wouldnt know first hand

rentals exploded in the 90s , vhs was still niche in 80s and had format war with beta, i think porn made vhs mainstream , and made low budget stuff acceptable
